About Bourbon Rocks
Bourbon Rocks is a publication about American whiskey — the history, the culture, the honest takes, and the lifestyle around the pour.
No rankings. No scores out of 100. No breathless coverage of allocations you’ll never find on a shelf.
What you’ll find here instead: writing about why a bottle matters, who made it, what it tastes like in your own glass at your own kitchen table, and how it fits into the broader story of American whiskey. Craft and context. Opinion when it’s earned. Sometimes a cigar pairing or a record worth pouring something to. Always honest.
A new piece most weeks.
On how this works.
Most of what gets reviewed here is bought on a shelf like anyone else’s. When a bottle or sample is provided by a distillery, retailer, or PR contact, that will be disclosed plainly at the top of the piece. Sponsored content, if it ever appears, will be labeled as such and clearly separated from editorial. No brand gets to approve coverage before it runs. The point of all of this is to be worth your time, and that only works if you can trust what you’re reading.
What about AI?
Bourbon Rocks is written by a person, not generated by one. The opinions, the takes, and the tasting notes are human — they come from actually drinking the bourbon, not from a model. No algorithm tastes whiskey.
AI does help behind the scenes, and the same rule applies to it as to everything else on this page: you should know it’s there. It helps gather and organize research — but factual claims get checked against real sources before publishing, never trusted just because a model asserted them. It helps with editing — tightening sentences, cutting padding — but it doesn’t supply the voice or the opinions. And conceptual graphics are sometimes AI-generated, while photographs never are: if you see a pour, a glass, or a distillery, that’s a real moment. Bourbon Rocks won’t fake being somewhere it wasn’t.
Same reason as the rest of this page: you should know what shaped what you’re reading.
